Barbara Debus studied Economics, Political Science and Social Sciences in Gießen and Bremen. She worked for over ten years as a journalist, seven of which she spent as an editor for the daily newspaper "die tageszeitung" ("taz") in Bremen and Berlin. She received recognitions among others for her investigative research and for her documentary work at the German public TV station "ARD".

She has been responsible for the journalistic and PR related work in the Institute for Future Studies and Technology Assessment (IZT) since 2001.
