Sie Liong Thio
holds a degree (drs.) in Social Geography of the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands and has been researcher at the IZT since 1999. Previously, he worked as a scientist (regional development and urban research) at the Sociaal en Cultureel Planbureau (Social and Cultural Planning Office) in the Netherlands as well as at the German Institute of Urban Affairs (regional and urban development) in Berlin. As a member of these organisations he published on locations of public services and supplies in rural communities.
Main focus of his work at the IZT are the research areas ‘Regional development and new Technologies’ and ‘Applications and Impact of ICT" as well as regional policies for structural change. German Parliament, the German Ministry of Education and Research and the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health count among his clients.
