BewareE – Reducing the Energy Consumption of Residents by Behavioural Changes (BewareE)

Project Overview:

Households are responsible for 30 % of the total energy consumption in Europe despite of the upgrading of buildings undertaken during the last decades in order to improve energy performance. For buildings, there is still an energy reduction potential of up to 30 %, which can be materialized partly by behavioral changes among residents without reducing comfort levels.

The BewareE project aims at stimulating this change of attitude and at enhancing the implementation of ‘energy services’ in cooperation with housing organizations and companies, drawing on ‘good practice examples’ from EU and national projects. This project will generate a database of energy services to be disseminated among housing organizations and companies, public and private energy service providers.

The beneficiaries should be tenants and residents. Together with several institutional partners, both private and public, best practice examples for energy services will be promoted through actors’ workshops, in-house workshops at companies, lectures, publications and a manual.

The project is funded by the EACI Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation within the programm Intelligent Energy Europe 2006 (EIE/07/242/SI2.467624 – BewareE). It has started in December 2007 and will run until May 2010. The IZT is the project leader of BewareE. Our European Partners are IVAM (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), EifER (Karlsruhe, Germany/France) and INASMET (San Sebastián, Spain). National Partners of the project are the BBU Berlin-Brandenburgischer Wohnungsverband, the BFW Bundesverband Freier Wohnungsunternehmen and the GdW Bundesverband deutscher Wohnungsunternehmen.
