Fifteen years after the Conference for Environment and Development in Rio, there is a wealth of experience today on how to implement the Agenda 21 on the local and regional level. This experience provides the basis for improving the work of local sustainability initiatives, in particular for developing their strategic, tactical and methodological orientations. In order to successfully continue the work of sustainability initiatives, it is necessary to provide opportunities for ongoing exchange, further education and cooperation.The congress is expected to establish a Germany-wide platform for exchange and networking and will take place in a different location each year. more...

The European Union aims at achieving a share of 20 % of renewable energy by 2020. The different starting points (e.g. existing energy mix), specific framework conditions, and basic resource potentials of the Member States will be taken into consideration in order to provide a fair increase for all Member states and based on that background, derive appropriate national expansion goals. It is the responsibility of Member States to break down the overall targets into sector specific goals.
