Energy Foresight Network (EFONET)
The ultimate objective of the EFONET project is to assess the contribution that current knowledge on energy foresight methods and on their practical application can provide to energy policy making - specifically in the framework of the transition towards a sustainable and low carbon energy system.
Specifically, EFONET will strive for building consensus on long term policy options identifying feasible pathways that combine short-medium term policy constraints with long term vision and implications as well validate current policy options. Particular emphasis will be on identifying technological priorities by providing input to medium/long term RTD policy and Reducing conflicts in priority setting throughout the promotion of a shared perception of uncertainties.
EFONET is set out to achieve its goals through the organisation of a structured discussion platform on energy foresight. The work will be carried out trough the organisation of 18 Thematic Workshops that will be attended by the EFONET network participants and a Final Conference.
The EFONET team includes 14 partners and a larger group of “external” experts (the Experts/Observers) covering 19 different countries and representing private and public research organisations, governmental and international organisations, industry, electricity utilities, University, NGOs and civil society.
As its main outputs, EFONET will provide a series of policy briefs that will be devised in order to explicitly link with the objectives of the EU energy policy. In addition, it will prepare a series of Country Reports summarising state of the art on energy foresight methods and their application across the EU.
IZT is responsible for the workpackage 3 “Methodological approaches to energy foresight” aims to investigate “How can foresight methodologies be improved to arrive at a European Energy Foresight” as answer to the needs of foresight users (industry decision makers and policy makers). It also will focus on lessons learnt from national energy foresight exercises, options to overcome cultural and language barriers, and better integration of quantitative and qualitative approaches.
