  • Kerstin Fritzsche has been head of the digitisation unit at the IZT since June 2020. She also coordinates the joint project "Transformation Roadmap Digitalisation and Sustainability", which is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and implemented together with the Wuppertal Institute.
  • Her research focuses on the opportunities and challenges of digitalisation for socio-ecological transformation processes and deals with questions of design and governance of sustainable digitalisation. She also analyses digital development processes in the countries of the Global South and examines how these can be shaped in a sustainable, just and inclusive way.
  • Before joining the IZT Kerstin Fritzsche worked as a senior researcher at the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS) in the research group "Digitalisation and Sustainability". She also worked as a project manager at adelphi on environment and security, climate change and renewable energies and developed, among other things, a standardised approach for climate vulnerability assessments. Furthermore, she conducted empirical research at the Centre for Near and Middle Eastern Studies at the Philipps University of Marburg on economic and foreign policy of religious parties in Algeria and Morocco.
  • She has extensive experience in the acquisition, management and implementation of research and consulting projects in the field of digitalisation, development and sustainability.
  • Kerstin Fritzsche studied political science, Arabic studies and journalism at the University of Leipzig and the Stockholm University with a focus on international relations, political theory, social movement research, development theories, media theories as well as politics and societies in North African countries.
