The Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) has the task of informing the public about radiation protection aspects in an interest-neutral and knowledge-based manner. This also applies to radiation protection in the expansion of electricity grids. The risk communication of the BfS is intended to enable citizens to assess the health effects of low-frequency electric and magnetic fields independently and in a well-founded manner. The IZT was commissioned by the BfS to evaluate the content and form of the information provided by the BfS on the expansion of the electricity grid. The BfS offer includes texts and a video on the internet, brochures and lectures. Based on the current state of science, the IZT conducted surveys and participatory observations, among other things. Finally, the IZT developed recommendations on how to optimise the BfS's risk communication.
