Four building blocks structure the roadmap process: In the Forecasting important factors influencing water management are analysed, as well as their effects on water supply, water demand and water management infrastructures. Wildcards - events that are unlikely to occur but would have a strong impact - are also considered. The jointly developed Vision 2100 draws the target picture of the joint efforts. It describes a water-conscious society that places a very high value on water as a basis of life, handles water with care and ensures comprehensive resource protection. At Backcasting is "looking back" from the desired outcome to the present in order to identify the important areas of action and measures in six central fields of action (sustainable use of natural water resources, near-natural water quality, water-conscious settlement development, resilient supply and disposal infrastructure, energy-efficient and climate-neutral water management and water-conscious society). The Action Agenda 2030 builds on the broad knowledge base of the stakeholders and describes the key actions to be taken in a timely manner on the way to achieving the vision.

Together with the project partners IKU, IWW and TZW, the IZT is conducting a series of eight workshops in the various project modules with experts from water companies and associations.
