Abstract

The "Bits & Trees" conference (2018 in Berlin) offered the largest debate forum for digitalisation and sustainability to date. In this book on the conference, over 50 authors from the tech scene, the sustainability movement and development cooperation show how digitalisation can advance socio-ecological change. The contributions highlight the effects of our digital consumption in the Global South, the sustainable use of data or the risks and potentials of a digitalised economic system. The focus is always on the urgent question: What kind of digitalisation do we want? The various answers to this question make it clear that a sustainable digitalisation must be oriented less towards the interests of individual economic actors and more towards the common good. Selected articles from "Bits & Trees" numerous infographics and portraits provide food for thought and action on how digitisation can make the world a better place.
