Abstract
Mobility and futurologist Stephan Rammler makes a passionate plea for a different kind of mobility. With 'Volk ohne Wagen' (People without Cars) he presents a topical debate book for the car nation. Germany is a car country. Germany invented the car, perfected it and made itself economically dependent on it. On the one hand, the car is one of the technologically most sophisticated and intelligent products of modern mass culture. On the other hand, it is a product that is hostile to people, society and the future - if we consider the bottlenecks in resources, space and clean air that are already noticeable today. Stephan Rammler pleads for a mental and emotional change of perspective: We have to say goodbye to automobility as we know it. What initially sounds like abandonment turns out to be a surprising enrichment - a step forward towards even better mobility.
