The 22nd BilRess network conference "The 9R strategies of the circular economy - new requirements for resource education?" took place on Tuesday, 27 May 2025, in Berlin.

With a recycling rate of only around 12 % for the production materials used, it is clear that the raw material flows in our economy are still largely organised in a linear fashion. Without fundamental changes in design, production and consumption, a functioning circular economy cannot be realised. The so-called 9R strategies - Refuse, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Refurbish, Remanufacture, Repurpose, Recycle - provided the framework for the content of the network conference. In her presentation, Prof. Dr Christa Liedtke from the Wuppertal Institute emphasised the importance of the Rethink and Redesign strategies for the successful implementation of circular approaches.

The 22nd BilRess Network Conference showed a remarkable variety of educational, research and practical approaches to the circular economy with its flashlight presentations, the resource circle and the numerous practical examples. This diversity concerns both the thematic focus and the methodological approaches and target groups involved.
