Diversity and equality

As a non-profit research institute, the IZT is committed to shaping a sustainable and just future. In the face of global challenges, we are guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a particular focus on gender equality (SDG 5) and reducing inequality (SDG 10).

We are committed to an open and inclusive organisational culture that sees diversity as a strength. We promote a working environment in which different perspectives, backgrounds and experiences are valued. Diversity - be it in terms of gender, age, ethnicity, cultural background, sexual orientation, religion or physical and mental abilities - enriches our research and contributes to the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for the future.

Our diversity and equality agenda is based on a clear legal and scientific foundation. The General Equal Treatment Act (AGG) provides the legal framework for protection against discrimination and the promotion of equal opportunities in Germany. It obliges employers and institutions to take active measures to prevent discrimination. In addition, we are guided by the research-orientated equality standards of the German Research Foundation (DFG, 2008). These standards emphasise the need for structural and cultural changes at all levels of the organisation in order to sustainably anchor equality and diversity in science and society.

For us, equality means equal opportunities for all employees and the active creation of structures that reduce discrimination and enable participation. Through continuous reflection on our processes and a culture of dialogue, we strive to break down barriers and create a working environment that promotes empowerment and respect.

With this diversity and equality agenda, the IZT aims to internalise the principles of sustainability and equity not only in its research, but also in its internal practice. All employees are invited to actively participate in this process and work together to shape an organisation that is a role model for a diversity-oriented and forward-looking work culture.
