Energy Communities: Accelerators of the decentralised energy transition
With digital technologies on the way to new roles in the energy system of the future
Abstract
Digitalisation, decentralisation and participation are central building blocks for the sustainable transformation of our energy system. These aspects are particularly important in so-called energy communities.
The analysis shows how such communities in their diverse constellations will advance the decentralised energy transition in the future. Digital technologies can help to make peer-to-peer energy trading, collective self-consumption and other decentralised business models economically viable. The analysis also shows how this can be achieved using examples from the Netherlands, Denmark and Spain.
