Abstract
Digitalisation, decentralisation and participation are central building blocks for the sustainable transformation of our energy system. These aspects are particularly important in so-called energy communities. The analysis shows how such communities in their diverse constellations will advance the decentralised energy transition in the future. Digital technologies can help to make peer-to-peer energy trading, collective self-consumption and other decentralised business models economically viable. The analysis also shows how this can be achieved using examples from the Netherlands, Denmark and Spain.
