Inclusion of biodiversity and ecosystem services in decision-making
The team of the Bio-Mo-D project discussed with other stakeholders at the workshop "Transformation through cooperation" on 30 and 31 January 2024 in Hanover what can make the transfer of knowledge from ecosystem services, natural capital and biodiversity research a success. After more than 25 years of research in these areas, the question of how new information on ecosystems and their services can both contribute to the modernisation of economic reporting and rewrite the history of social prosperity and well-being in Germany is becoming increasingly urgent.
Recently, there has been a new dynamic in the political-institutional framework, most recently emphasised by the goals of the Montreal Biodiversity Conference. This essentially boils down to the inclusion of Biodiversity and ecosystem services into national and company-related economic reporting.
Of particular importance is the question of how a mutual transfer of knowledge between science and politics can be established and secured. Roland Zieschank (IZT) gave a presentation on "Science-policy transfer of information on ecosystem-related reporting". The event marked the start of the intended establishment of a stakeholder network in the sense of a "community of practice".
