Recycling in the Age of Digitalization

In anticipation of the renewal of the German law on electronic devices (ElektroG), the IZT is examining how large quantities of smartphones, tablets etc. can be recycled at high grade. Focal points of the investigation are critical metals and flame-retardant plastics.

Climate friendly Kitchens in Polish Schools

The results of a IZT-led project about climate-friendly school canteens in Germany is being transferred to the local conditions in Poland. The Polish city network for energy efficiency supports the IZT as a local partner. The aim is to significantly reduce the greenhouse gas emissions created by the preparation of school food.

December 11: IZT's Project received UN's Climate Action Award

The IZT-led Project "KEEKS - climate-friendly school kitchens" received UN's Climate Action Award "Momentum for Change" 11th of december 2018 at the Katowice Climate Change Conference. IZT's Head of Research Dr. Michael Scharp partcipated in the ceremony.

UN's Climate Action Award goes to "KEEKS - Climate-friendly School Kitchens" and "Plant Powered pupils"

The United Nations Climate Change Secetariat (UNFCCC) has announced the awardees of the 2018 Climate Action Award "Momentum for Change". Among the winners is the project "KEEKS - climate-friendly school kitchens", which is coordinated by the IZT. The project comes to the conclusion: Dedicated school kitchen teams can save a considerable amount of climate-relevant emissions.

German Bundestag commissioned technology assessment for another 5 years

At its meeting yesterday, the Committee for Education, Research and Technology Assessment of the German Parliament unanimously decided to continue to trust the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS). It will continue to operate the Office of Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag (TAB) until 31.08.2023. The IZT looks forward to working together with ITAS for five more years at the TAB. IZT's second cooperation partner will be again VDI / VDE - IT.

The TA-SWISS, Foundation for Technology Assessment, published a report on the quantified self. A condensed version is available in English: "The measure of all things: potentials and risks of self-tracking". The IZT was responsible for researching economic developments as well as for deriving options that are significant for technology assessment.

Survey looking for opinions on personalized news

The Office of Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag and the IZT have launched a survey looking for opinions from citizens, the media, academia, and business on personalized news, focusing on the advantages, risks, and transparency. More than 1500 people already have taken part.
